Could I get some feedback on this photograph please. I hvae my opinions on it, but then it does have some emotional connotations for me so my view may be slightly skewed. Thanks for your input.

I will give you an answer but you may not be happy with it. You are too far from the the true meaning of the incident. The subject is looking to her left but we the viewer do not have an understanding of what she is looking at. You need to be closer. Something is occuring but it is in the next frame or just out of our reach when we and she confront the object.

While the picture doesn't do anything for me as is, it would seem that if you had done one of two techniques to get the entire person in the frame it would have had more impact. Either crouch lower to where you were looking a little more up toward the person or just lower your lens a bit since there was obviously room over their head for it. I think the first technique would have done more for this picture though.

I am, you may be surprised, not unhappy. I asked for honest critique, because I cannot unbiasedly (my apologies if I just made up that word) comment on this photograph. I think I understand what you mean, the photograph does not contain the full context that it requires. That's what you were getting at, wasn't it?

This pic would only be interesting to someone with a direct connection to the person pictured or a person interred there. There is nothing wrong with that. It is an important pic for such a person. But it has no universal appeal for others. This is my opinion.

That is what I really needed to hear. I really could not discern whether the appeal I found in this photograph was because of my emotional connection to it, or more.

but I feel that your story about it would make it more interesting for me. I find myself these days more intersted in taking pictures that are personal to me like this one is to you. I enjoy taking pictures of family and freinds and things that I have a personal conection with. Thanks for posting it cause you made me realize why I like taking pictures.

Well said. It is much more important to take pictures that are significant to yourself, otherwise this hobby could not be so satisfying.
