Hey guys, while not my best effort, insofar as I only had the camera for a total of 24 hours, I did really enjoy shooting with the latest Monochrome. My shots are from the guy in the bar holding a beer, onward:

Working at DPReview I shoot with whatever camera our testers aren't currently reviewing and we have not sent back to the manufacturer, and seeing as my Mamiya 7 and CLE are both out of commission, it had actually been a good 4 months since I shot with a rangefinder, was fun to try and get back into the groove!
 
Hey Scott,

Nice shots -- they feel very much like film photos. Would love to shoot with a Leica Monochrom, too.

What's it like working at DPreview? And how's life in Seattle?

Hey Dan, Seattle is great, best city I've lived in (past cities are Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Rochester, NY). What won me over is the landscape/setting, where else can you get a decent sized metropolitan city and have volcanoes, 2 mountain ranges, the ocean, rainforests, deserts, and <s>affordable rent</s>?

I've worked at DPReview for 5 years now and it's been a fun ride. I manage the business side, which for a publisher in 2016, is a bit tricky. But it keeps me being creative as a problem solver, and obviously as a photographer, its a great place to work!

Hey, the dpreview gallery actually seems to be usable on iPhone (as long as you only swipe sideways). It's so bad on my Windows computers that I don't bother going. Have to check on the Macs after this experience.
 
Hey Lasse, let me know what issues you were having with the gallery, I work with the developers so can actually get things changed/updated somewhat quickly. What browser were you using?

Is it just my monitor or does that image posted seem to have vertical lines in it? I've been looking at getting a used Monochrom at some point, but not sure about possible sensor issues/lines at high ISO, etc.

+1 Lots of banding ! Looks severely underexposed !

It's just slow and unresponsive on both IE and Chrome (Win 7 & 8).

Seems to work well on Mac/Safari, though.

It'y my fault guys, the image was pushed in post leading to the banding. If I had exposed properly likely much better result. ;)

There is no shadow detail to separate the woman from the background. This is due to limited dynamic range, because the image is exposed with clipped highlights and shadows.

If you lighten the shadows to separate her from the background, the natural shadows in her clothes will lighten as well destroying the tonal naturalness of the image making it seem hdr-sh in a negative sense.

The solution is to take the image in photoshop and selectively lighten the shadows while keeping the natural shadows at their default values. but that requires a lot of work.

If you had shot with a higher dynamic range camera with its three channels, your options would have been far more flexible at the time of exposure and processing...
