I love this little camera, its got a nice sharp lens and feels very well constructed. We were at a beer festival when I took these so they're really just snapshots but they do show the character of the lens.

This was right into the sun, I expected much more flair for such an old lens.

Glad to read you are enjoying your automatic III. I also have one and like the auto exposure feature, which works quite well I might add. I find I use mine when I want to take film shots on the fly and leave the meter at home. Bob

Been wanting to add one of these to my Retina/Retinette group, and your shots confirm that would be a good thing to do. Is your meter still working, and acurate, or did you do your own exposure calculations?

Yes the meter works great, these were all shot using the auto exposure mode with the film rated at box speed.
I think these cameras are a steal. They are very high quality and feel solid and reliable. The shutter makes is quiet and makes a nice sound as well.

saw one of these at the thrift shop today with nice original case for 29 bucks. I took it out of the case but the meter did not appear to be working so I left it at the thrift shop. Shutter fires. Glass clear. How hard would it be to get it working, is it typically something simple? I take it it doesnt fire at all without the meter working right?

No it works just fine in manual mode without the meter. Just set your aperture and shutter speed on the lens.

Yeah if you have an external meter go for it, they are solid reliable cameras. Not like the later cheap Kodak stuff. These were built in Germany.

I got one for $45 and then I had it CLA'd by Bill at Chicago Camera. He told me the meter was about one stop off at high shutter speeds so it probably cannot be totally adjusted. I have yet to run film thru it. I would like to figure out a lens shade solution. Probably a 39mm push on but I am not sure.
