i've owned my epson since nov 2004. serial 16xx.
the epson is my first rangefinder in a long time, so i've attributed a lot of my focus problems to operator error. now i'm not so sure. for the last few days, i think i've read every thread here about focus problems, vertical alignment, etc.
i apologize in advance if i am a bit disjoint and rambling.
first i tried the 45 degree ruler test. i found it difficult to focus. the two images would be slightly rotated from each other. they also didn't seem to line up vertically.
after reading the DIY vertical alignment post a few dozen times, i worked up the courage to adjust it myself. that definitely made a difference. the images were still slightly rotated from each other, but maybe that's to be expected.
back to the ruler test with the ruler about 5 feet from the camera --
- starting at infinity, focus resulted in a reading of ~5 ft on the lens and a resulting image where the point of focus about 2 inches past what i expected.
- starting from the other end, focus resulted in a reading of ~4.5 ft on the lens. the resulting image had a point of focus about 2 inches nearer what i expected.
i achieved similar results with both a 90 apo summicron and a 50 summilux. although the lens reading difference was harder to observe on the 50.
given all of this.. what would you recommend?
