For snapshots by zone focusing without using the rangefinder the distance scale carries two special marks. When the distance is set at the triangle mark (10 feet) everything between 8 and 15 feet will be sharp; when set at the circle mark (30 feet) the zone of sharp focus extends from 15 feet to 00.
I understand zone focus and dof and I can see the benefit for a quick to use no focus solution for these two lengths but can anyone tell me anything at all about this feature, was it common on cameras of the day for example. Do you use it? Why 10 & 30 feet and why a dot between the apertures, it even has its own click stop.

This was indeed a common feature -- certainly with Voigtlanders, though Zeiss Ikons had it as well.
As for the triangle setting, that's for group portraits; for the circle setting, that would be for scenics. I use it from time to time, it's handy for cameras without a rangefinder, or when you don't want to waste time trying to focus.
