Long story short, bought a refurb a little over a month ago.

Last week, something went drastically wrong with the rangefinder. It went WAY off, like the two images were on the top and bottom of the frame, impossible to focus. Like something slipped inside, or a mirror almost fell off.

Also, one out of three images were saving as black frames, blank.

Called Epson and they sent me a FedEx number to ship it to Plainfield, Indiana.

Today, less than a week later, got it back, stuck in a plastic bag in a large white box via FedEx.

Same camera, same serial number (I marked it to make sure).

The rangefinder was bang-on perfect. Close or near focus, perfect alignment. The problem with the blank frames was fixed.

Someone must be repairing them now, because this camera had both mechanical and electronic problems which were dealt with.

Anyone else have experience like this?

Get yours fixed or they just sent you a new one?

That's great to hear. Maybe Epson doesn't have any more of them to swap, maybe they've all been converted to "s". Listen, these cameras didn't materialize on earth from another planet, someone designed and built them so someone can fix them, it's a matter of whether or not Epson cares.

Epson still has the two unsold new R-d1 cameras up for sale that no one wants to buy at 3K each. They might show up on the "refurb" site after the holidays.
