Hello!

I've been trying to find the above on ebay but have so far failed, are there any other websites or stores (either in UK or abroad) that stock them regularly? And can anyone vouch for the quality of the non-leica lens in the M39 mount?

Thanks,

Dan Phillips

I purchased an FSU Jupiter 12, made in 1987, from Fedka, and it works extremely well on my Leica IIIf RD. Fedka has a good reputation for providing quality FSU imports. See the airplane photos in my gallery for examples of the images that this lens produces.

This site is a good place to look. CV has a super range of wides as noted.

Canon, Nikkors, Rokkors are generally excellent.

M. V... how did you get that 'worldwide' search feature.. I'm interested in that one. I seem to only get US/Cda when I do a straight ahead search like the first one you posted. However the link immediately below brings up "worldwide" and another 50 +/- additional hits.

After you search for USA items, on the left hand side of the displayed page under "search options" it says search "worldwide".

Click on "worldwide" and click on "show items".

I will vouch for the 28 and 35 mm Skopars from Voigtlander; both are very good on my IIIf. I think KEH has a couple of 35mm Elmars right now that might be worth a look.

In the US:

KEH Photo.com

Ritzcollectiblecamera.com

E-bay

Besides Leitz, I wouls also personally endorse Canon f:1.8 - 35mm and the Komura 35mm LTM ... both decent lenses.

For screw-mount lenses, I'd back Voigtländer or Kobalux/Pasinon (28/3,5, 21/2.8) against 50-year-old Leica 35mm and 28mm lenses any day.

And I've never been impressed by FSU 35s; I've had several, though none for years.

Cheers,

Roger

Don't over look Canon LTM lenses, which offer to varying degrees a vintage lens signature and are affordable. Canons use odd filter sizes. The build is a notch below Leitz, but I prefer them to more modern line-up from Cosina Voigtlander.

The Cosina Voigtlander 35/2.5, 28/4 and 21/4 are compact lenses which are rangefinder coupled and very good performers, albeit with a modern lens signature. Compact is the operative word. Since on a Barnack body that is important. The build quality of the C/V lenses is astounding good for the cost.

For a more vintage lens signature either the Soviet Jupiter 12 or the Summaron 35/3.5 will do and are in my opinion affordable. The Summaron is a tourist lens, best used in daylight at f/5.6 to 11. The build of the Summaron is pure Leitz, which means excellent - but for the money the Soviet J-12 is definitely worth a try.

There is the rare LTM Summaron 35/2.8, which is even better, takes 39mm filters, but due to its rarity this lens is pricey for what it is. It is superbly superbly built, though. Compared to stratospherically priced Leitz Super Angulon - it may seem more reasonable - but these are still lenses for LTM users with very deep pockets and a inherited trust fund.
