Hi all,

Advise wanted for a trip we are considering in mid to late March on the US east coast.
Probably from Charleston to Orlando.
We are from Vancouver and a family of 4, two adults and two kids (4.5, 9.5).
The plan at this time is to fly into Charleston and spend two weeks driving south to Orlando area to Cape Canaveral then fly back to Vancouver. We intend to follow the coast all the way down (Highway 17, Highway 95)
The kids are experienced travelers so I am not worried about the mechanics of travel with them.
Our primary interests are trying new foods, visiting the coastline, stay in small towns, visit historic sights and finish at Kennedy Space Centre.

Camera gear and film not decided yet. Maybe the GA645 and Olympus 35RC or 35SP plus Bessa-L and CV15/4.5 for Kennedy.

What is the weather like at this time (mid-late March)?
Any small towns or beaches you recommend to visit?
We would like to visit some historic plantation sites - which are the best preserved?
Are there any Gullah-Geechee communities that are welcoming to visitors?
In the large towns (Charleston, Savannah) which area do you recommend to stay in and visit?

Thanks,

Michael.

I lived in Savannah from ‘94 thru ‘96, and my ‘escape’ was Jekyll Island. It’s about 70 miles south of Savannah, right off I-95. Very historic, calm and beautiful.

In Savannah, the museum I always liked there was the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, and it’s right next door to the photo building (Bergen Hall) at SCAD.
