Soviet camera during the cold war

I know the Zorki 4 was available in the U. S. I have a 1973 Popular Photography with the price of $69.95 (USD) including a Jupiter 8.

I am unaware of distribution in the US, but in the UK, the TOE was the local distributor. You can find more information about it on Alfred Klomp's excellent page.

The "no name" Kiev was sold in USA in the early 1960s. I think Spiratone sold it. I understand it was produced exclusively for the US market. I believe it was actually made in Jena using some but not all Ukranian parts. It was pretty cheap and probably the greatest photographic bargain of the 20th century. I imaging you will pay serious $$$ if you can find one now.
"Kiev" Kievs, Zenits, Zorki-6 and 4s, were sold here in Oz by Meopta. They were not very popular.

Back in the '80s Cambridge Camera sold Zenits under the "Cambron" brand in the USA. I think Spiratone also sold Zenits under the "Lindenblatt" name, though it could have been a different dealer.

Hey Jean-Marc,

The Zenit on your opening page looks like a "Cambron TTL" sold by Cambridge Camera back in the 1980s.

a 1956 edition of Popular Photography magazine had a small ad for the Kiev IIa and IIIa sold by mail order from a Toronto Canada retailer.

Cambridge Camera in New York City sold Kiev cameras under their correct name during the cold war. I bought one. The shutter stopped working about a year ago and I bought a Kiev 4 to replace it since buying one was cheaper than having the other repaired.
