Hello,

I have a small problem on one of my Zeiss Contax Ikon. At the beginning of the film the space between 2 image is completely random. Then it seems that it become more regular after the first 10th or 12th picture (even if 1 or 2 are not regular between number 12 and 36)

I ve one question concerning the film advance mechanism: how tide the cog (inside the red circle on the attached picture) should be?

DSCF2225-2.jpg

It seems that one one contax (the good one for film the space between 2 image) it it almost does not move independently if the shutter is wound or not. For the second one it seems that is can be turn a bit (at least between 1/16 to 1/8 of a tour.)

question to PreWar Zeiss Contax II (or III) owners, is it the same on yours ?

Many thanks

After loading the film, do you rewind til you feel tension on the rewind knob before advancing the film?

Hello

Thanks for your answer.

No I did not rewind knob before advancing the film when loading a negatif ... Is it important ? I am sorry if it is a stupid question but I am quiet new with those beautiful camera .

Well, Vics's suggestion is a good one, that is a smart practice to follow to assure more even tension in the process of advancing the film. Just remove the slack is all, no need to make it tight... :)

I had the same problem on my early Kiev II. I now use an empty film canister as a pick up spool. Frame spacing is absolutely perfect from the first to the last frame.

Speaking of Contax Ikon, a brief question not worthy of a new thread:
I have bought a Zeiss film cassette, the one that has a textured finish and the ZU showing in the closed position, and the problem is when I insert it to my Contax, I cannot close the back. Are there more than one types of Zeiss film cassettes for different types of cameras? Am I doing something wrong?
Sorry for the hijack.

thanks all for your tip. I ll try it and see if it solve my trouble of spacing between pictures.

@Nikos72: I have Zeiss film cassette and I never tried them with film, but I tryied them without ! As far as I experience it goes in the film loading compartment. let it open, and then when you close the back of the camera, and turn the thumb below, it closes the cassette by it self.

I can take a few shot of mine. It s also written ZU when it is in the closed position
