and when aren't we...?
i went out today with both rd1 bodies and with the cv 28/1.9 and cv 35/1.2 attached...in truth i didn't even take the 28 out of the bag because i wanted to play with the new 35.
i started thinking that if i got the 50/1.1, i could easily live with that kit (and bulk up my arms a bit too)

i now have a slow and small kit and a large and fast kit and it would be a tough decision to make if i could only keep one kit. i mean, some days small is better but i had forgotten how nice a bigger lens feels in the hand. that big focus grip on the 35 is very nice and so fast to grab on to.

. I tested the 35 1.2 myself and it seems like a really excellent low-light lens. Like you said Joe, it would make a great companion to the 50 1.1. Post some shots?

one of the reasons that i am building a set of fast lenses is that i spend 7 months of the year in near darkness.
in winter, all the daylight hours happen while i am at work. i drive to work and home in darkness.
as to a fast 50, i have the zm sonnar which is a 1.5 and while a 1.1 may not be all that much faster, it IS faster plus i don't seem to use the sonnar as much as i thought i would. perhaps a switch in lenses might change that for me.
if i were to get the 1.1, i would need to sell the zm and likely my little elmar collapsable, leaving me with a large, fast lens and the tiny cv 50/2.5...i could live with that.

That would be a nice working combo. My one fast RF lens is the CV40f1.4. All my other RF lenses are f2 and slower.

My GAS milage had been good for quite some time (like 3 months), but I opened a can of GAS again when I sold Summicron 35. GAS desease can be contained if you strain yourself and keep all gears absolutely as-is. No-go-no-come. New funding, lack of focal length coverage, needs of repair, travel plan, whatever excuses that you can come up or fabricate, there be GAS.
As for lens choices, I always come back to small, relatively slow lens. Because I want to carry everyday in my hand or bag, low profile lens always wins. And I regularly push two stops, shooting F2.8 Elmar @1600 is essentially someone shooting F1.4 Summilux @400 as far as the speed goes. I'm so used to carry-on-size of Elmar-M and original Elmar, my super tiny Nikkor-HC 50/2 rarely get out of cabinet.

you can cure it, choose ONE lens and ONE body. virtually you can make with it 99% of shots and lost 1% will be probably "oh look, I have cool lens so I can make such-and-such images". then same for MF, LF, half-frame, 110... one camera for slide, one for b&w, different ISO...

For some of us, this isn't even close to being true. But I guess it just depends on what you like to shoot. For some photographers, a single camera and lens may very well be all that is needed.

Same here. I love to run around with my m8 and a 35 pre-asph lux.
But for a range of work that includes portraits and documentary projects (including a series I'm about to do on roller derby), that combo would be very limiting.

Yeah, I took Elmar and Nokton to Paris for a week. Elmar was all I needed for the entire trip. It's sharp, still "gentle" and you just can't beat the size of that thing. To me, that lens is the ultimate travel/walkabout 50. And remember, that little gem is already discontinued. Don't sell it!
