The back on my SQ-Ai won't release, I've removing the plate on the bottom and pushing in the release but even then I can't get it to come off. Any pointers/help would be great.
I actually just purchased a second back as I started a project where I was taking 1 picture a month with one back, then have the other to use for other occasions...but now I can't the back off to put my other one on and continue.
Thank you in advance,
Jordan

The dark slide is in place? And it is the appropriate original one, and not one from another camera (e.g. a 645 or some other brand)?

Yes the dark slide is in...and yes its the appropriate one. As I said I had looked up here (http://www.apug.org/forums/forum51/93664-bronica-sq-back-problem.html) already and tried to manually get it to release with a small screwdriver. But I still can't get it to come off.
Thanks

This is something that may work for you. With the ETRSI camera , if you wind on the lever to advance the film, which also cocks the shutter, you can then press the lens release button and the film magazine release button and the back should come off.

Check that the darkslide is not damaged. There should be a small tab at the bottom of the darkslide that releases the back's lock. There are a lot of darkslides out there where this tab is broken off..Yes the dark slide is in...and yes its the appropriate one. Here's an image of a Bronica (albeit ETRS, but the SQ is the same) dark slide with the metal tab at the bottom of the slide.. http://www.41018.mrsite.com/USERIMAGES/CIMG7888.JPG
