square 35-cron hood on 35-lux?

Hey guys,

would it be possible to use the square hood for the 35mm Summicron on the Summilux (or the CV Nokton 35 1.4, which looks like a re-make of the first Summilux) ?

Any comments appreciated. 🙂

No on both counts.

The 35mm pre-asph Summilux has no cut-out for the top and bottom of the shade (they would have to be filed off - but then it would rotate freely on the retaining ring) and the 35mm f/1.4 Nokton takes a bayonet shade (there is no retaining ring mechanism for the square shade to clip on to).

I once mounted the rectangular hood of my 35mm Summicron IV onto my 35mm Summilux pre-ASPH (the one that takes series VII filter inside the hood) to test this myself and while the rectangular hood fits and won't fall off easily it is quite free rotateable ...

I bought a 12526 hood just after buying a 35mm pre-asph Summilux for a good price. From what I’d read there were no new rectangular hoods available for that lens, I wasn’t finding any information about other hoods, and a thread on RFF suggested this hood would work. Also, I already had a ver. iv Cron, and didn’t know then which lens I’d keep. (I’ll probably sell the Cron.) I did know a hood is absolutely required for this Lux . The 12526 is somewhat awkward on the Lux because, as Gabor points out, it can rotate, but for me the bigger inconvenience is that I can’t get my fingernails to operate the aperture ring with the hood on. However, I set the aperture, slide the hood on, it does stay there, and it’s a hood. I didn’t want to spend time fishing in the bay for the discontinued original.

Thanks for the info so far. So I'll most probably get the original hood for the lux type lens.
