Is the R-D1s still in production by Epson or has it been discontinued?

I don't think it's in active production, but it's still available. When stocks are sold, it'll be gone for good, I suspect.

There was a planned production of 10,000 bodies. IIRC Epson sold about 5,000 of them sofar. I guess if they actually produced all of the bodies, quite a lot are still available.

For what I have seen the average is very close to 1 replacement for each camera sold, so even if they still have quite a lot, a lot of them are probably customer returns, I am not sure I would want to buy one of those.

Francesco, I can understand that. My thought would rather be that Epson overhauled those returned bodies to iron out the QC problems, and that these bodies would show no QC problems anymore. That shouldn't be too difficult as Dr Yao overhauled my R-D1 too before hsipping it off to me, at no extra cost.
