Steinheil 45mm in a 39mm LTM

The other day I came across an odd lens sitting in a junk box at a second hand store. A Steinheil Munchen 45mm 1:2.8 Cassarit to to exact.
The thread looked like a Lecia 39mm screw mount. So I tried on a rear lens cap first, just case I messed up the body mount on my Bessa R. It fits. So I tried it on the body, and it fits. So for $2 I bought it.

However... with the lens set at infinity, the rangfinder is not set to infinity, the rangefinder is closer to 10 feet. So either the lens is mis-aliened or the lens fits on to another camera. A comparsion with my LTM 50mm Nikkor proved this, the RF coupling collars on both lens are at different heights.

Thoughts? Ideas?

What you have is a lens for a Braun Super Paxette II, a german camera of 1950's vintage. It used a 39mm screw mount, but the flange-to-film distance is different than the Leica, so it will not focus correctly. In fact, you may note that the 'top' of the lens is actually on the bottom of your Bessa R when the lens is mounted.

Here's a link to that sort of camera:

CameraQuest Braun Super II

Incidentally, I have about 30 of these cameras. I kinda got a weird thing going on with 'em. Well, that's over, I'm selling them. Maybe I'll keep one.

Thanks Bill, had no idea where it came from or where it goes. Do now.

Right, I might have commited some kind of hersery here...

Being the university holidays, considering it's raining, I'm stuck inside and bored... I have screw driver that fits the screws on this lens and...
I've discovered how to re-alined the above lens to the Bessa R.

I have six shots left on my current roll of film, lets see what happens...

If all else fails, I finally now have a 35mm enlarging lens for home :)

It'd seem a threaded spacer 15.2mm long would allow that Paxette lens to focus ok on the R... by scale only of course, without RF coupling.

I suppose that extra distance on the Braun was needed to accommodate the leaf shutter? Good thing the aperture is part of the lens rather than part of the shutter...
