Not really a rangefinder question, but dealing with optics anyway. I have a pair of Steinheil 6X30 VL binoculars and am trying to find the period of manufacture. Can anyone tell me or link me to a site that has that info. Thanks.

When I was trying to find out information on the Steinheil lens I got with my 4x5, I found little info on Steinheil. What I did find out was they were making binoculars in the late 1800's. Good luck with your search.

Thanks, I don't think these are quite that old. At least I'm not the only one not finding a lot of info on Steinheil. If the lens for your 4X5 is anything like these binos it must be pretty decent.

Bob, here's a link to an Exakta board where as much is known about Steinheil as anywhere I know of. The general opinion seems to be that they used optics of high quality but the mounts are just of good quality. IIRC, Steinheil was closely associated with another very highly regarded optics company and may have been their mid-quality manufacturing partner.

Ask your question here and they may have an answer for you.

I think you'll have to join the list but it's painless and they're a good bunch of guys just like here.
