I have a beautiful Pentax Spotmatic SP 500 and 55mm f2 Super Takumar given to me, complete with original lenscap. This is so loose now that I have feared using it at all. The felt is intact, but flattened with age.
I cut a steri-strip to be the right width for the depth of the felt and applied this over the felt. It seems to stick fast, and the thinness of the steri-strip was all that was needed and any thicker and it would not have fit. The slight fabric ribbing of the steri-strip non-stick surface grips the lens filter ring nicely. The inherent strength of the steri-strip stops it wanting to bunch up. Time will tell how durable a solution this is.
