I'm mainly a micro-4/3 shooter, having owned a series of Lumix G's, but several years ago I acquired an X10, which I've come to really appreciate for candid public photography. Having a smaller sensor, it has intrinsically wider DOF, something that comes in handy for this style of photography.

But then, sometime this year, the OVF went wonky, it's decoupled itself from the main focus mechanism, a problem I've heard others have experienced. Fine, I still like the images it makes, I'll just use the LCD.

Of course, the LCD is pretty useless in bright sunlight. I've fashioned a makeshift hood around the LCD, made from heavy black craft paper and gaffers tape, but it's a perfect kludge, and doesn't work all that well.

Then I thought about finding an optical, hot shoe-mounted external viewfinder. I've ended up ordering this one:

I'll report back here when I recieve the VF and begin to use it. But I expect it to work fine. Its FOV is preset for an equivalent 35mm FOV, as it's an accessory for the Oly 17 lens, and I often use the X10 set to an equivalent 35mm FL. And also, the X10's native aspect ratio is also 4:3, so the framing should be pretty close.
