Unfortunately, I had some camera equipment stolen out of my minivan as I was packing for a trip at the end of last month. I don't have the serial numbers of some of the equipment (such as a Nikon 17-35 f2.8 that I got around 2012 or 2013), but I do have the serial numbers of the camera body and vertical grip.
Nikon D750 body -- SN 3045274
Nikon MB-D16 grip -- SN 3004575
Anybody know whether Nikon USA takes serial numbers of stolen equipment so that I can be notified if it is submitted for service?

I know they help NPS members with valid Nikon USA equipment. I don't know their policy on non members and non USA gear. But, I would send them an email. The upstate NY office is probably the best place to send mail.
Good luck with this. I've had it happen twice. The local PD pawn shop detail recovered a bit of my gear, and located the thief, in the most recent theft. He's the son of a US Senator and, wasn't held accountable.
Always keep photos (showing SNs) and a list of serial numbers off site. Today, they fit on a CD or thumb drive. Leave them in a Safety Deposit Box or, with a friend. It's also good to photograph your purchase receipts. Bad things happen to good people.

That's going to be tough now that 3 weeks has passed since it happened.
What town did it happen in? This will help us help u keep a look out if any of us happen to be local.
