Strange contacts under covering

I replaced my ZI body covering with Griptac the other day and found a set of electrical contacts below the preview lever. I reinstalled the clear plastic piece that protects them from the covering adhesive.

Any idea what these are for?

Probably give access to the electronics during manufacturing for testing and/or calibration.

I'm very interested to see some pictures of your griptac covering. The original covering is really bad. As someone stated before, the covering literally »melts« when the camera is held in the hand. Which is what I do when I'm out shooting. Anyone else with the same problem? Did you already recovered your ZM? Which leatherette/material did you choose?

I know it's OT, but I suffer the same "mushy" covering issue as well.
