Hi guys, I have always been an Epson V700 user until recently i was lucky enough to pick up a VED and a Dimage 5400 for very reasonable prices. Since their factory software looks so legacy on Mac, i bought a Vuescan Pro and used it. I have chosen TIFF as the output format with 24-bit RGB file type + TIFF profile & log produced, with no infrared clean activated as i found them useless with b&w negatives.

In the past, when i have a dusty or scratchy scan, i use the freeware Polaroid Dust & Scratch Removal and they have always been fantastic with my V700 outputs, accurate and fast (if no overkilling). However, right now, when dealing with my vuescan outputs, no matter from the Dimage or Coolscan, when a dusty image is inputed into the Polaroid application, it IMMEDIATELY becomes CLEAN before i tell it to search for dust! When i try to search dust based on this clean import, it can see nothing but a few mis-intepreted grains. However, after i save it and open it with other applications like Aperture, the dust and scratch come back again!

initially i thought it was the Polaroid's fault and got some old files from V700 to test it, but it works out very well like before. However, with outputs from vuescan it just becomes so dull..

I tried many different settings but the consequences are the same, so i am posting here to see if any of you might have an idea. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
