Got my GT on the weekend, this thing came with the original case with all accessories and work perfectly , but the bottom is little bit rough (some bad dings), I'm going to use the GS bottom to replace it. Anyone here try to strip the chrome and repaint it ???? any idea how to do it ?

thanks

Henry

I've taken an interest in these repaint jobs and I've been looking for a black paint. The best I've found on the web, with out testing in person, seems to be some of the gun coatings at Brownells on the web. This one seems to look pretty good, available in a gloss and flat black. If it stands up to service on a gun, it should work for us. Don't know how it will stick to chrome plating, or untreated brass.

It has moly in it to reduce friction. I don't think this will make it like a wet bar or soap, but rather it will make it more scratch resistance.

The bake-on/curing/enamel types should give better resistance to scratches.

Just a thought, wanted to pass it along.

Mark, Brownell's has super customer service. If you call them and ask for their advice on a durable paint finish, they'll give you the straight skinny. I've done a fair amount of business with them in the past and they're about as good as it gets IMO.

You might want to try "reverse electroplating" -- get a brass strip, hook up the strip and your part to the poles of a 12v battery, and suspend them in an electrolyte solution (salt water supposedly works.) Electroplating is how the chrome finish got onto your part in the first place, so reversing the process is a logical way to get it off.

I haven't ever tried this on a camera yet, but I've heard from people who have that it works.
