One thing you might try is to wind the selftimer and press the shutter button while gently pushing on the selftimer lever to help it through its travel

My latest gt had the same fault.you must take off the front off the lens and take out the selftimer then it will work again check yashicaguy site for instruction

Rule of thumb on Yashica and other cameras with lens mounted self times "don't use them and they will not get stuck"v

Glad you got it fixed. Many of these selftimers don't work properly because of lack of use so I prefer to use an external selftimer.
Thanks for the feedback on my gallery.

Hi everybody,
I've just had a look at this thread and would like to explain my issue with the selftimer... looking for help.
My Yashica GT has a selftimer that never worked, at least since I own it. I don't really need to use the selftimer too much, but if possible, I'd like to try to fix the problem.
Mine is not stuck: it moves "down" when pressed and comes back to its original position... Any idea/sugestion about what the problem is / how to solve it?
Thanks!!!

Dead timer sometimes due the "flat" POD and stuck shutter..
