stuff in the mail

it was like christmas today when i got home.
my mailbox was overstuffed with many small parcels from all over.

from the uk i got my 43.5 yellow filter for the oly 35rc.
now i have 3, 2 with yellow and one with a uv, no waiting!

from ohio i got some film in trade for ?, i can't remember at the moment...and a cd with the manual for the oly rc, finally i'll know what i'm doing with those cameras 😉.

and i got my wrist strap from m classic!
very classy looking, fits nice and feels comfortable. i can see why those leica users would want one. maybe i should post a photo on that other forum for all the leica users to see my canon p on the other end of this strap?!
as to the strap, it is very nice but i doubt it will do a significantly better job at holding hand to camera than my homemade jobbies, but it looks just so good.

this is a blatant plug for seth at mclassics, if you use a wrist strap and ya wanna look good then you have to get one of these.

no, i emailed him directly when i saw the strap in a pic that someone posted here.
it was 34 bucks with postage included and it came with 4 soft metal loops and a plastic one too. seth said he was running out and wasn't sure when he would do another production run.
i have to say he was the nicest guy, easy to 'chat' with and he sent the strap out before my $$ arrived cause he said i seemed like a 'cool dude'.
that's the kind of trust i find here but not many other places.

it was a pleasant experience all round.

Just got the notes from the postman that I can pick up my 43.5mm shades for the Oly 35 RC (I got two - they are just so rare, I could not pass them up, and since postage was the same, anyway...) & the 42mm push-on yellow-green filter from a Belgian Ebayer, and my second Iskra from alex-photo (hey, just like I said, they are rare, the price was good, they are getting more expensive by the minute, and I needed some lens-caps and stuff from alex-photo, anyway... 😉 )

Roman may I ask how much that Iskra was ? I also needed some stuff from Oleg so I included a $40 one he had there. It had been retrofitted with a red ruby window in back, but in some way I *almost* prefer that than risking to the film transport mechanism jamming in my hands in the second roll (either it was the camera's weak point or most users were too weak to use it properly 🙂)

Mine was 89 USD, but without the red window - more than double of yours, but on German Ebay or from someone like Fedka they are reaching the 150 US/EUR range now...

Phew, 150 euros is near what a store here sells them for, that is 200. However when I asked them for it, just out of curiosity, they found the shutter was sticky, hehe...

But then, think about what SuperIkontas go for these days - and while they are great cameras (don't own one but handled a couple of them at camera fairs and in shops), in my opinion the Iskra is a more practical design (esp. the great finder).

Now the only things I'm waiting for are a table-top tripod, and a big order of Neopan 400. I know you like that film, too - how much do you pay for that in Spain? I found this German mailorder-place (www.nordfoto.de) where they have it for a mere 2.66 Euros (but you have to make a minimum order of about 230 Euros, so I ordered together with some friends).

OTOH, i always let the stuff sent to my work address, which is a university. The guy at the gate is supposed to open any incoming package (security check, and some official registration stuff). My packages he leaves already unopened...just asks me, "More cameras to tinker with?" 😀

However I was very surprised when at an evening, around 7 (he has to go all along the building and turn off lights etc), he has seen me tinkering with the Ikonta that has the stuck focus ring. I was trying to remove the ring (only) from the front, he looked at me and said, "I think the full front assembly should come off by disassembly started from inside the bellows".
He was right, of course! but how did he know it??? My jaws dropped and I've forgot to ask him.

Pherdi, just ASK him. I always try to swap some chat with security guards at the uni, the parking, etc. Usually they are really bored, they have some really fun anecdotes to tell, and you never know when it may come in handy to have some extra friends in that field 🙂

Roman I'll try to find the receipt for my last purchase (I'm sick of receipt-keeping), but I'd say it was around 3 euros, as the clerk there gave me the photography student discount even if I was not, plus he put in the bag a free Tri-X roll for me to try.

Not bad but as for film, I decided to be 'fair' and help a bit the local business, however, I'll check that site, thanks !

I do have chitchat with those guys at the gate (not security just a guy that does the administrative stuff at the entrance), especially with this one. But him knowing this was really unexpected.

As to film - my "local business" photo store, where i do my developments too, sells ONE roll of 135/36 Neopan400 (or similar) for euro 4,99. Tri-x is somewhat cheaper.

Hey, around 3 Euros sounds great, so you might be better off buying at your store (no postage). I have a hard time finding it in stores here, and one of them wants around 5 Euros, and most other mail-order places sell it for around 3.60 to 4, so for me it was a good deal!
BTW, the site is in German only, IIRC.

Pherdinand - my front office in the Physics Dept, which is two blocks away from my lab, has noticed a marked increase in packages arriving from former Communist Block countries. - I has explain that the once mighty dollar no longer buys what it used to in Eurozone countries.

Roman - A good find on the 35RC lens hood, which stows onto the lens barrel when not in use. I take it that you have some filters as well.

My mailbox has been busy over the last week.
My 50mm 'cron arrived, the 40mm Canonet QL17 I got for $20NZ, several dodgy Canon FL lenses...

...and for something completely different and not photography related, a new 6 channel radio unit for my RC battleship. Now I can rotate my turret, shoot the CO2 cannon and turn on the water pumps with a spare channel left over for something else to operate. Joy.

Up to €5 for a 36 exp. Neopan 400? 😱 You can get it from B&H or Adorama for $2.49. B&H are out of stock, but I got a stack of it from Adorama last week. Does it not make sense to get it from the U.S? Even with tax added?

My mailbox is lonely. I am getting somewhat impatient waiting for a Leitz Focotar lens that is supposed to be coming from England. 🙁
