Gray Fox
Well-known
I've just had what I consider great success with Caffenol-C-M (Reinhold's formula) with both Fomapan 100 (Arista Edu Ultra) in 120 size and Kodak BW400CN in 35mm. I exposed both at ISO 200. The former film is one of Reihold's favorites and the other is one of Steveh Schaub's preferred films (Figital Revolution). I mixed one 500ml batch, and first developed the 400CN in a single roll tank with 260ml of developer for 15 minutes, then double stopped, first with water to get rid of the residual brown developer, then with Kodak indicator stop bath, both for 1 minute. I then fixed for 5 minutes in Arista fixer, followed by the rinse and Photo Flow process recently described by Roger H. I was a bit taken aback by the negs. The images were clear, but very dark and dense, but the spaces between frames were OK.
After I developed the first roll I dumped the developer back into the half-full origninal graduate, stirred it a couple of times and let it set while I fixed and rinsed the first roll. That done and hanging to dry, I poured 475ml of the developer into a double roll tank holding the roll of 120 Fomapan, then repeated the whole process and hung it to dry alongside the first roll. I let them dry all last night, then cut and sleved them this AM.
Intersperced among other tasks I've been scanning them images all day--yes it does take a while. The 35s I scanned on my old reliable Microtek Artixscan 4000t @4000 dpi. I used VueScan on 48 bit color using the Kodak Gold preset. Resulting images were 115.5 Megs! This roll I shot in my Contax G2 w/45mm/2.0. The roll of 120 I shot in my Fuji GA645zi. I scanned the images on my Epson 4490, using VueScan @2400 dpi, 16 bit grayscale. Images were about 35.5 megs. The first image is from the Fuji, the second from the G2.
These shots were taken at a rural church cemetery near my home.
