Hey Everyone,

I finally succumbed to the lure and bought a Leica M2(w MR meter) and Epson R-D1. They are complimented by 40mm Summicron, 90mm Elmar-C and Industrar 61. I am complimenting the M2 with a home developing kit that I am assembling. I hope I can find the time to develop all the stuff I shoot at home.

Thanks everyone for the insightful advice, tips and guidance given to me all these months. Hope to show some good pictures taken by them in the forthcoming days.

Regards,
Prashant Kumar.

You bought both? Congratulations!

Home development doesn't take all that much time. You can develop a roll faster than a bike trip to the local lab would take. Scanning and PP-ing eats up most of my time...

As a proud M2 owner myself I can only say, use it, use it, use it. We'll never be Tom Abrahamsson, but the M2 is a joy and excels so much at what it was designed for!

Thanks guys..the logic for both M2 and R-D1 was that I would rather shoot digital than not shoot at all(hardly find time for the film work flow given my grad school pressures) 🙂..nothing to knock against R-D1..the pics that i have seen with it are simply fantastique..

but the M2..ahh..that is a different siren call altogether..I just finished my first roll of tri-x 20 mins back..the simplicity, discreteness and immediacy it offers for street and candid portraiture is beyond parallel..

roger, thanks for the developing tips..i am definitely gonna develop at home..pics due in a couple of days 🙂

now my 30D is gonna gather some dust 😉..

best regards,
prashant kumar.

Good luck, Prashant. It's my guess that you'll use the digital camera more than the film one. I suspect also that you will soon want a 35mm lens for the M2.

Mukul-ji, probably you are right, but I love shooting B and W and I suspect once I learn the finesse of developing myself effectively M2 would find good use.

35 summicron was my original plan but not enough moolah, now i am looking out for a 15 heliar. hope to find one cheap 🙂

Congrats on the buy. Now go and sell the 30d while you still can. Get a good film scanner to upload those negs if you don't already have one. I have been looking for a good deal on a 15/4.5 heliar for awhile to no avail. Good luck.
