I'm looking for weather sealed kit to take along with M camera for travel to Pacific NW.
Would like to keep the budget under 1,000.
Was considering a used OMD EM-5 with a weather sealed prime/zoom lens and an M to micro 4/3 adapter to use M 90 or 135 for longer shots.

Your thoughts/suggestions please.

Thank you.

I went to El Salvador last summer to document mission work. I carried two EM-5s, the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, the Oly 45mm f1.8, and the Oly 14-150mm f4-5.6. I could have done everything with the 14-150, which I bought as a refurb from Cameta Camera for about $330, so that should fit within your budget. For a little more money, but probably outside your budget, I would rather have the Panasonic 14-140 Mk. II, which by all accounts is a better lens.

JFYI, I think the only weather sealed m43 prime is the 60 macro.

I keep hoping they'll put out a weatehr sealed "walk about" lens (anywhere between 35mm and 60mm equivalent would work for me), but so far no luck.

If I were to put together a travel setup in m43, I would be tempted by the gx7 or gm1 w/ 12-32 plus the pany 20. I would add a p&s weather resistant camera for those occasions that it gets rainy and when u want to hand to someone to take a picture of u and others. If it is a camera that is good underwater to 15-20 feet, then it can also serve dual purpose.

A different type of travel kit, would be the m43 setup above along w/ my ir converted Olympus epl1 instead of the p&s. Robert says he uses two m43 bodies when he travels. One is normal and other is a ir camera. I have recently starting shooting ir and it does add a different look to your shots.

I do have an em5 which I use mainly for nature photos. The 12-50 kit lens is waterproof, but I only rate it barely average in terms of overall iq. I have been told that the pany 12-35 is weatherproof. I think the Olympus named branded msc lenses maybe weather proof as well, but I really have never investigated this since my original intention was making use of the great ibis and 2x lens factor for nature photography. I use sigma 60f2.8, pany 45-200 and Leica 90f2.8 via novaflex adapter on that camera.

Forgot to mention, if u don't mind smaller sensor (1 inch), the Nikon aw1 is a csc which is LCD only but is a true underwater camera (I think somewhere between 50-100 meters). There are two underwater lenses that are available. Right now I can not remember what they are, but at least one is a zoom..
