summaron goggles

i am pondering to get a summaron with goggles, am going to use it on my m3 and also my m6ttl with .72 finder.

i know that the summaron with goggles will usually brings up the 50mm framelines? but how does the goggles works on m3 .91 finder and the m6 .72 finder?

Yes, works on both, but on the M6 the image will be smaller.

The Summaron/Summicron/Summilux goggles reduce the VF magnification by a factor of 1.5 (so I read in the Leica User Forum). 0.91x (M3) => 0.61 and 0.85 (M6, M6TTL, M7, MP) => 0.57. 0.72x => 0.48.

If it was my choice I would get one without goggles and just use it on the m6. I love my summaron but on the m3 the viewfinder isn't as clear and brilliant as it is unmagnified.

I agree. I would buy a SBLOO or other high quality 35mm finder to use the lens on my M3 instead of a lens with goggles. Unfortunately the lenses without goggles are more expensive.

Do the googles add any distance between the lens and the body? Do they change the focal lenght or they are just for magnification of the viewfinder etc.

Sorry for the lame question. I really dont know about it and I was once interested in summaron too.

No it doesn't. The goggles are on top of the lens barrel near the lens mount. They sit nicely in front of the camera VF window.

The goggles are especially helpful for eyeglass wearers, you can see some air around the framelines just like you can when a 50mm lens is mounted.

To me the main drawback of the goggled version is the space they take up in you camera bag. For shooting the are fine - and indispensable for the M3 (which should be clear and bright. If not, it needs a CLA).

I just got a Summon 35/2.8 with goggles for using it on my M3. It is a wonderful thing. The 35mm frame is brought as bright and clear as the 50mm frame without goggles. I tried it on my M9 and I got to focus very close too. Although I did notice it does not get completely against the camera. There is a narrow distance. With the goggle version, I estimated the with of the frame, then I put the regular sum micron 35/2 on the M3 and shot without seeing the frame, I guess it will be find. So, you can shoot without seen the frame, just imagine the 35mm frame is all the viewing area.
