Hi,

I just received a very nice Summaron 35/f3.5, but it "acts" differently than my Industar-22 does. So I have 2 questions.

When I have my I-22 screwed on, the infinity lock is at 11 hours (when looking at the front of the lens), whereas the Summaron has it at 7 o'clock. The close focus in both cases is around 1 o'clock, and checking quickly, infinity focus down to 1.5m seems correct. Is the infinity lock in the normal position when it's so low ?

But the Summaron goes down to 1.0m and the Zorki's RF doesn't move anymore when it gets closer than 1.3-1.2m. Is this a (minor) compatibility issue between Leica lens & Zorki body ?

Peter.

I have several I.22s and I.50s. Like your Summaron, all mine infinity lock at about 7-ish. Have you shot a roll with the Summaron?

No, working on that. I'm not worrying about the lens, because focus works well in most of the range, but it's nice to hear that the 7 o'clock infinity lock is normal. I expect to finish this roll of film in a week or so (if this downpour continues, I might refrain from taking out the camera 🙄 ), I'll post them when I get the scans.

I concur: the 7 o'clock position is defnitely normal. You shouldn't worry about that; I have a summaron that I used on several Zorkis( 4K and 3M) and I always had good results.
Bests,

Check the adjustment of your Zorki's rangefinder. FED and Zorki require to be adjusted at both infinity and minimum focus distances. The former is adjusted through the rangfinder adjustment screw through a port between the rangefinder windows (done the same as in Leicas), and the latter by altering the slope of the RF sensor wedge (the one which couples with the lens cam). This is unique to FED and Zorki, since Leica and its clones are usually calibrated using only the RF adjustment screw.

As for the different "o'clock" positions, the lens mount threads of FED and Zorki did not start at the same places so lenses would park at different positions or orientations.
