Summitar Filter Size?

Both my Summitars accept the Tiffen series VI tapered adaptor.

There likely are filter threads there, but they are difficult to notice, as they are located very close to the front element.

Frank's right. The thread is between the front element and the Leica inscription.

I've got only one filter for my Summitar, a green one (+1); it's one made by Leitz for Summitar lenses. Don't know the size: when I measure the diameter, I read 36mm on the rule; that's strange - is that correct?
You can find some on ebay, though they are rare.
Cheers,
Marc

I've got an f2/50 collapsable Summitar. Am I correct in thinking that the appropriate filter size is either A36 tapered screw mount or a 42mm slip-on?

Here's one from Ebay that sold for $30 usd:

uses these funny little filters that screw deeply into the inside of the front element retaining ring. They have a conical rear that tapers-down to a thread somewhat smaller than 39mm

from ken Rockwell site linked via the summitar page-with details of adapters etc

I do not have a summitar -.. the summarit takes 41mm e41 filoters with a similar pitch thread (but different size) - the push on one for the summarit would be too small probably but who knows MAY fit?

no idea why straight answers are not given to questions!

yourdeelight - this is a VERY old thread!

Ken Rockwell is right - they are a unique fitment. You will know them when you see them - they look like the photo in post #6. I picked up three in a bulk lot of odd filters. Generally they are like hens teeth.

42mm push-on filters can be made to work but the lens is slightly undersized for this dimension - something like 41.5mm.
