Is this a common problem? I just received a macro 38/3.5 in the mail and for the price (good) I don't see a reason to return - assuming it's not indicative of some ongoing deterioration. It appears as little cracks coming in from the edges. Lens was received from Australia, so I suspect it was stored somewhere quite hot....

A pic would help, I rarely find Zuiko lenses with such a problem. I'm surprised you had it shipped from Australia, there are some good used camera shops in Kobe, and the prices here in Japan are often quite a bit lower than the online auction prices.

I'll try to post a pic later. It's not a lens I've found for a decent price locally. At US$315, I was willing to give it a go. Locally, it runs twice that.

FWIW/ This was easily fixed during the overhaul of the lens. The repairman, just took care of it during cleaning when he repaired the helicoid. $110 total. Negatives look good. Yet to print them, though.

Yikes. It looked like a dry riverbed which strikes me as odd for fungus, where mycelia tend to form a clump and grown outward. I'm glad it's gone!
