Hi fellow RFFrs, I am interested to get a good P&S and choosing between a Leica CM and a Contax T3. I noticed black T3s are selling at an average $ 700-800 for a near mint to mint condition. I have seen some CMs selling below that, there is one CM at popflash for $ 600 now. I have read reviews in the net and the T3 has very good positive feedback vs the CMs infamous shutterlag and the T3s better VF. My only concern is the film sprocket , single or double. Is there a way to know when the 2 sprocket came out? Are the black ones 2 sprocket already? Thanks.

I bought a black T3 in the fall of 2001. I have a winder problem, which I believe is the sprocket problem, and I have not got around to fixing it. (I have asked on this forum if there was an address in Japan I could send it directly for repair, but have not received a response.) I don't know if this information helps with your question or your decision.

Thanks Sevres, so is it not a guarantee that all black T3s are dual sprocket, might as well get the one advertised as latest version though it is silver. I saw some T3s in the evil bay.

I haven't bothered to get my uni-tooth spool upgraded. Just retension the film before loading, and it should outlast other T3 mechanisms (like the automated lens cover
).

Have you tried Mark Hama--Yashica repair guy? http://markhama.home.comcast.net/~markhama/

sevres_babylone,
Here is the link to Tocad America the people Kyocera handed off to when they bailed out of the camera business.

Finally got the 2 teeth version pricey though but IMO very worthy. Here are some sample shots. Film used HP5.

Hi, I'm glad for you that you have selected the T3!!!
My only additional suggestion, in case of future problems (but the two sprocket T3 will never give you), is to get a Yashica (i.e. T4) point and shot and cannibalize the sprocket (a good local repair person can take care of).
My congratulations for your great images... and for the purchase of the best point-and-shot ever produced.
Cheers.

Thanks Womby. I think I will have a grand time with this nifty P&S. Yeah right, the greatest point and shoot ever made.

I have a T3 and have seen the sprocket question raised before but I'm never sure what people are referring to. Is it the sprocket that holds the film canister? Mine has two teeth there. Does that mean it's a double or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Yes that is it, you have the double teeth.
