So, lot's a news:

I got mail from that seller I was talking about, prices are as follows...

Safrotto CF 700, 800, 900: 37 Euros (available in tan and black)
MLS f-803: 39 Euros
MLS f-805: 43 Euros

Shipping (to munich):
7.90 Euros for 1-3pc.
10.90 Euros for 4-6pc.

Now roman, taffer, denis: The seller will be ordering at about 16:00 Berlin time, after that it 'd probably bee another 1-2 weeks until the next order..

I will be ordering a Safrotto 805 or even 803 anyway, so 3 or 4 more would be no big deal.
Rember though, that there'd still be shipping costs from me to your place, but those shouldn't be too high. (?)

Let me know who wants one, we could also wait for another week or two, I am not in a hurry at all and the guy will still be there :)
I don't know how exactly he wants payment to be handled, but I guess he'll let me know.

Now, MLS seems to be another mekko spinoff, and I suppose safrotto, mekko and MLS are all made in the same factory but anyways they do have different pricing :D

Also, I now have a quote on the mekko bags, (prices are in US$ and I reckon they don't include customs (germany: 2.7% or 3.7%) and VAT (16%):

F-03X US$ 35
F-803 US$30
F-804 US$28
F-805 US$25

Airmail (to munich, Germany) is $15.
I just asked them how much shipping to the US/CA would cost, and I'll post what they write back when I get an answer..

Also, after doing some "googling"; it seems that mekko bags are said to be of better quality than safrotto - I don't believe this until I have tried a safrotto in person, but as I mentioned, the mekko appeared to be quite well made when I handled one in paris..definetly far superior to my tenba domke f-3x clone..

cheers,
phil

P.S.: No I don't have too much time on my hands, it's probably just a G.A.S. fallback..

Phil, thanks!

I'd take Safrotto CF700 (single-strap) in tan color, if possible...
I hope the other guys will join in....

BTW, do you have any idea how much would shipping from you to Croatia be?

Denis

Denis,
I just emailed the guy that I'd rather prefer to go with his next order, so taffer and roman have a chance to join in if they want. (And of course the others, if anybody wants to..)

Shipping to croatia if I remember correctly should be 8.60 (uninsured "paeckcen" up to 2kg, +4.something if they airmail it) and a whopping 30 euros for insured shipping (add a horrendous 8.70 to this for airmail).

I once sent an uninsured paeckchen to a friend in split, took about 10 days but arrived in one piece. Don't know of their recent quality of service though..

Also, what's the difference between single and double strap? (other than obviously being double the strap :)) I haven't seen two versions yet..

No problem with me... I'll wait the next order...

Uninsured, ordinary (like the one you sent to Split) should be OK. I've had no problems with local mail (yet!) :)

The "double strap" looks to be another model, probably CF800 or something - you can't judge well from the photos on their Web site.
CF700 can be easily recognized by a single strap which is used to secure the front flap (bag top). Hope this clears it up a bit.
In short, I'm interested in CF700.

Thanks,

Denis

I think this pic is the one Denis was referring to with the 1/2 straps issue.

I'd get a CF700 as well, don't worry too much if it's one or two straps but... isn't it available in brown ? :( I'd prefer to find them in the same color than on the pic below, I guess that's not tan, no? ;)

Oscar

PS: Sorry for not answering before.
PS2: Felipe, thanks for the heads up !!

just emailed the seller, he'll be submitting his next order on Monday morning. So any of you folks wanting to join us on our order, are welcome to do so...

Denis, I guess I confused "your" double (closing) strap w/ the carrying strap (some larger Billinghams have a double carrying strap..) but it's all clear now.

The 700 is close to the domke 803,
the 900 to the domke 805,
and the 800 is a larger 900 with double closing straps..

EDIT:

Wow it took me 7 minutes to write 3 paragraphs, taffer you are fast ;)
I'll ask about that brown color..

Oscar, I think the cameras in your photo are not brown, but tan - probably the white balance issue, since I haven't seen any Safrottos being offered in Brown... at least I think so - options are black, navy blue and tan. Tan is something like "safari" or whatever it's called... Check out the ebay auctions for Safrottos, you'll see how tan looks.
Anyway, you can do a "coffee bath", and it will come out real nice and worn-looking :D

PS: Phil, thanks a million for the effort!

Denis

They make brown CF700's

They make brown CF700's

The CF700 comes in brown, navy, black and tan. The pic that Oscar attached is from the Safrotto site, and the one on the right is a CF700 - not sure what the one on the left is - maybe a CF800 but what that represents in Domke terms is anyone's guess. I've attached a pic of my tan CF700 below. These bags do come in brown. :)

Ooooops - thanks, Peter, for the correction!

Didn't know about those coming in brown, too.

I'd also like one in brown, rather than tan, but Phil said his supplier has only tan and black. Given only those two, I'd rather go with tan....

Denis

Given the popularity of the camera & coffee thread, maybe souping the tan one in a coffee bath is not that bad idea...

Dipping it into your 5 o' clock darjeeling should also take care of the colors.. the smell may be easier to bear than coffee:)

No seriously, I'll ask him to talk to his retailer about the brown color..

peter, thanks for the pic, say does your bag have a zipper on top of the main comparment? Saw one on a MLS 803...

thanks all

phil

It doesn't have a zipper on top of the main compartment but it has a full-length zipper on the underside of the flap. Attached is a pic of the bag with stuff in it.

I'll jump in this wagon if nobody minds ? Phil I'll send you a PM with my details if that is ok ?

( now to figure out which one I want - any opinions?)

Hi Felipe,
thanks for waiting (I was out raiding IKEA with my girlfriend this afternoon...).
I'd like to get one Safrotto CF 700 (that's the Domker 803-type, right?), preferably in brown, too, but I'd also take tan, if brown is not available... I guess you do have a German bank account with IBAN/BIC-SWIFT codes, so getting the money to you should be cheap & easy for all members from inside the EU.

Roman

PS: I also want to ask another friend whether he wants to join in on the deal, you are still waiting till Monday with your ordering, right?

I'm going with the BIG bag :D

(thought, as I'm still leica-less, I mays as well walk around with a bag that at least looks like I have huge equipment :p )

ok - I'll stop now..

Thanks again phil - I've sent you a PM

Sorry this took so long, I was out last night :)

I'm making a list with all participating folks..
could all of you send me an email with name, shipping adress, prefered model and color? I will then reply to each one of you individually concerning shipping costs and type of payment..
oh, and of course you'll all get my tel no. and personal details too. (I am GMT+1 so no 3 a.m. calls please  )

I will send him our order on moday, 11 p.m. if thats all right with the others. So no reason to hurry!
So far, it's:
Denis
Roman,
taffer,
and me...

meakin, I sent you a PM...

and to rover, joe and the other US/CA folks: Mr Chu from mekko.net told me shipping to the US and Canada is the same price as shipping it here, $15...
It seems though they only accept payment via CC, the prices are quite a bargain..

cheers,
phil

EDIT:
forgot my email: contact AT phsnet.de

Phil,

I think the PM is not working - I have not recieved a PM from you yet, so I've sent you en email with the same text as the PM
