I suppose that it must have been 18 years ago that I bought a Canon Sureshot Supreme - a point and shoot camera. The reasons were quite simple. I had a small dog who went nearly everywhere with me but had to be on a lead. Its difficult managing a camera bag with an Oly OM1 kit in those circumstances so a 'good' camera in a belt pouch seemed the answer. It was.
I enjoyed the camera: it took some great photos before it went wrong the first time. After repair perhaps I could imagine that it wasn't quite as good but ...
It was never the same after a young lady dropped it either.
But discovered in a cupboard it was recently taken out only to be found to be a 'non-worker'!

Disappointment.

Several months past, and several other cameras have come my way during this time.
But the old camera was still there.
I bought a new battery. I thought I had had a eurika moment when I realised that I couldn't remember if I had ever put in a new battery - and after 18 years!
Still didn't work!

So in an idle moment I looked on Echo bay.
A Canon Sureshot Supreme on offer in Guernsey - one of the Channel Islands.
And I was the only bidder!
Some apprehension when it arrived, but exceptionally well packed.
And there before my very eyes a 'duplicate'of my broken camera, except, this one works!

Brilliant.

A real feeling of pleasure - something seemed to have turned out right, and it felt as if I had an old friend back. And as I held it memories of photos taken, places visited, and the old dog came flooding back.
I have a different dog now, but as a nephew of the last one, he needs to be on a lead too!
A camera on a waist belt is a must.
But perhaps I could get a Sam Brown belt - now there is an idea!!
And I still have to see if I get as good pictures!!
