At the end of June I just returned from a trip to Peru. One little camera bag (one of those crummy looking throw aways to attract little attention), held my M8. Zeiss 50 1.5, Leica 90 2.8, CV 28.19.
Ricoh GRD III, and digital Harenzumi video camera (size of an aps film canister). All additional batteries, SD cards and cleaning solution, cleaning paper etc. included.

It is the first time Ive ever traveled completely without film.

What a great lightweight experience with heavyweight camera gear. No one noticed me - except for the occasional German tourists.

Climbing up Guanya Picchu, I took one camera and one lens. The M8 and 90 2.8. While I wish I had a longer lens, the kit was the perfect combination of weight and quality. No monster zoom lense swinging back and forth like some pendulum.

Its the unique combination of image quality and small footprint that is really the biggest picture of the leica kits. I realize, the M8 should be good for at least another decade of quality shooting and I have no intention of selling it.

40mm

Hi, last year visited Buenos Aires and used only a RD1s and a nokton 40mm giving 60m fov, worked great!

I was considering Macchu Picchu this month but won´t be!

Cheers!

Henri Cartier-Bresson's gear in Asia in the late 40s (he was in India when Gandhi died and in China when Mao took over) was a Leica (I/ II? not sure) and three lenses, a 35, a 50 and a 135. Pretty good pictures he got. I just recently saw them at MoMA, fighting my way through large crowds.

sounds like a fine adventure. you had the three focal lengths that i'd want with my M8, a contained set of equipment (which i really aim for), and a great place to wander and see (which we all seek) ...

bresson--or so says the lore--primarily used 35, 50, and 90, of course, on a full frame M. (i wonder if he altered that for india for a specific reason.) wish i could have seen the moma exhibit.

Amen!

I used to schlepp 25lbs. of Canon gear on my travels, but thankfully those days are long over. ;)

haha. i know the feeling. i recall walking around puerto rico with a nikon dslr and a large, heavy zoom lens. it almost killed my neck--and it led one tourist to explain, "what a huge, serious lens." that was enough to lead me to RFs.
