Mark, I'm trying to formulate a reportage around the experience I witnessed in Villa El Salvador shanty town in Lima, Peru.

I'll have to give them a critical eye in color. I shot specifically for b&w. It was gray weather, and everything was earth-colored. The only color was on their clothing, basically, and it was very bright color.

I enjoy the black and white. I have spent time myself in Lima and have been in some of these shantytowns. Using black and white allows you to see the tones and patterns that are too often masked by color. The Peruvians take great pride in keeping themselves as presentable as possible amidst surroundings that are best described as very, very primitive. To my eye your black and white images show that pride.

Thank you for showing a side of Lima that most do not take the time to see.

Excellent work, David. In a sense, your photos taken while visiting that Peruvian shantytown mirror my own experience in Brazil, despite obvious differences between the two places.
