I thought it best to put this post in here as bag's are the bag that Joe's into...
I met up with a few other RFF members in London on Sunday. We were walking along the South Bank and Pavel, Noel, Kully and Simon were walking in front of me. They all had camera bags but it was Noel's that caught my eye! I had to take a photo just to show you the best camera bag ever...
(hint: it's Noel's, second from the left)
Cheers

Noel! Not seen him since last year. Surely he's not thinned down to carrying just one bag?
Oh and his other bag is a Hadley - which is the best camera bag ever.

Not a chance ...he had a Crumpler too last month plus other assorted bags.
I don`t know how he carries it all.

So the "best" bag is supposed to be......? A bag which doesn't look like a camera bag?
I saw many people using Jansport bags... So inconspicuous.
I use a good'o Sony compact bag that I got close to 10 years ago and jam my camera in there! But it still shouts that it's a camera bag anyway...

After getting over the SLR "system" kick and lugging backpacks and the like around, I now manage with a minimal kit of four cameras in a Domke F-5XB.

I'm sitting in a california motel room right now scowling at my fx5 because the velcro sticking quality just sucks. This copy is 18 yrs old and the velcro has never worked well. Has Domke improved it?

Well, mine's about 15 years old also so I'm probably no help although the velcro on mine is getting a little fuzzy on the "loop" side too. I have had some luck on other items by trimming the longest of the fuzz with scissors and having the "hooks' grab a little better.
Myself, I wish someone would invent "silent" velcro. What's the point of having quiet cameras when getting one out of the bag alerts the whole neighborhood?

Buy some at the fabric store and sew it down. No machine? Shoe repair guy has a heavy duty one.
A one dollar seam ripper will get the old stuff off.

... velcro should have no place on a camera bag

... best bag ever for what?
That's the problem with "best bag" discussions. I have a Domke F-2 for when I need two bodies and several lenses. An F-6 for one body and a few lenses. A Timbuk2 small messenger with camera insert for a body and two lenses, a LowePro photo runner for riding a bike and working in large crowds, and a LowePro small backpack also for working from a bike but when I need a little more gear. They're all perfect... for their intended uses... and terrible for other uses.
