I have just registered although I have been reading the forum for the last couple of months. I have been using LTM RF cameras as my primary photography tools for almost 40 yrs, so I have a pretty fair accumulation of equipment. The reason for the post is to ask a question. I am considering purchasing The Canon Compendium by Bob Shell. Can anyone tell me how much of this book is deovted to Canon RF equipment? I have no interest in Canon SLR equipment so my only reason for the purchase would be for the Canon RF info.

Thank you,

RogerC

Tnx guys. I already have Deschert's book. Sonnar2 : I clicked on the web site and all I got was the Amazon.com website saying a mistake was made, so I have no idea what you are referring to. Could you take another run at it?

i just bought the canon p book, still waiting for it to arrive.
neat photo (seller) jumped all over me thinking i was a deadbeat with no intent to pay. they threatened to do nasty things to me. that is, untill i sent them a copy of the money order made out to them.
i thought they were quick to judgement.

and you guys think i have no real reason to hate the post office...

the 35$ Dechert at amazon.com is already gone... I paid about 30 USD to a GB bookstore, incl. shipment. A store in my neighborhood has this book in his showcase, dusty from decades, gravely asking for 60 USD. Leica dealer :)

Waiting for the peter Kitchingham's book (http://www.canonrangefinder.com/) I think Dechert left very few things for future research. But as far as lenses is concerned there is something left to do. There is also a connection to early SLR lenses. A 1.8/85 early Canon SLR is optically identical to a 1.8/85 RF lens. And, BTW, much cheaper.. :)

Interesting input, but I'm still looking for an answer to my original question. Can anyone tell me how much of Bob Shell's book The Canon Compendium is devoted to RF Canons. Tnx again.

Hi Roger,
There is only about 40 pages on text on the RF equipment, mostly pictures of the various models. The tables at the end of the book are not as detailed as Dechert, and the lens data is totally inadequate. I collect both the RF and the SLR's, and I was disapointed, but it's all there is that is easy to find.
I'd wait till Peter's book is published... the first volume should be out within a year, and will cover the lenses in detail.
If you have any other questions, just ask.
Harry B.

Harry,
Thank you. That is just the info I was looking for. I will pass on Shell's book and wait for Peter's as you suggested.
