Film to Digital

The change, was slow in terms of my own expectations as photographer, since only recently the development of digital sensors (at a reasonable price) has surpassed the quality of the previous technology.
But the same change was really fast in terms of historical perspective.
Imagine all the technology involved in the construction of an analogic camera and the huge gap to get to a digital camera.

Every change force to adaptations, or face the dissapearing with the old tech. Apparently this has almost happened to the leica rangefinder system with the entry of the SRL japanese market, and surely happened to Kodak in the digital era.

Leica have learned their lesson and are working closeley with Panasonic to stay on the top of their category.

Recently have read that now it is Nikon which is having a difficult time. Like all major makers leading their technology, they seems to be used to decide what models to develop and release. To be NEW you do not need to listen to your competence, but the world has decided to go digital, and they seems still not listening.

Apparently professional digital tech have found the way in the mirrorless segment, but Nikon seems to be attached to srl, or even coming back to the old rangefinder systems with the new releases of old designs. Definitevely Nikon (as well as other brands) seems resisting in its professional line with the obsolete srl concept.

Of course this is an opinion only, perhaps based in my own expectations on that specific camera maker. Finnally Sony did the A7, following the digital wave. Perhaps Sony had not such an emotional attachment to the srl tech, that they were more free to do what was needed.

I am sure Nikon can do such a thing and more, but the reason is not technological, but emotional, therefore dangerously irrational, which can determine their disappearance from the pro camera market.

Could they change?
