Desperate but not serious
The holdouts – shooters who still use film
Photographer Simon Watson describes digital photography images like this: “There is a smoothness that is so ugly and slick. It looks like a gimmick.” And another photographer says: “The world doesn’t need more megapixels.”
Whoa! What’s going on here?

Don't know whats going on here... I shoot digital and film, and the two looks not quite the same, pretty sure some people would not like digital. tossing grain in the file in photoshop is all good and well, but why when they are already part of film.

Everybody knows, digital has no soul.
Isn't that part of a Leonard Cohen song?
It's been a bit slow around here lately.

The best camera is one that still works!
I don't know why this debate rages on because we all know digital will win in the end ... actually it won a fair while ago if you're being realistic!
To refer to digital as ugly and slick and looking like a gimmick is immature in the extreme ... this guy needs to wake up and smell the flowers!
It is what it is and you choose to take it on board or not ... no amount of slinging mud at it will make it go away or make a damned difference to the end result.
I, like a lot of others here, am happy to use both film and digital because there are strengths in both mediums that relate to their core structures and constantly comparing one to the other achieves nothing IMO!

I wonder - if there were a forum explicitly for rants and provocation, would people use it?

When are all the morons in the world going to finally concede that oranges are superior to apples? Why everyone can't see this is a mystery.

Isn't film vs digital SO OLD by now that it's a joke?
I mean to portray it as such with my purposefully goofy post.
Some folks like film, some like digital. IT DOESN'T MATTER.

98s vs 45s vs flexidiscs - an ongoing conundrum.
People say that digital looks plastic, but film is plastic.

film, mac, chrome, wrist-strap, and I don’t like Marmite … and if anybody says any different that’s their opinion!

Are you a film holdout if you started on digital and moved to film?

Can't disagree about Marmite ... how anyone eats the stuff is beyond me!
Vegemite isn't much better IMO either!

I can’t remember which dictionary it is, but one defines it as “brewers residue” quite apt imo
I’m still film through laziness …

Some digital images look different from others too -- and then there's the question of the lens. My D70 is a much better camera with a Zeiss prime on it than with the 18-70 kit zoom, but it still has that 'airbrushed' look (6 MP). The M9 (18 mp) looks a lot more like film...
So how about a 'digital vs. digital' thread?
Cheers,

I've noticed the same look with my 6 and 7 MP cameras. Where does digital get a decent look? 10MP? 12MP?
I use both, so I find film vs. digital to be like hammer vs. screwdriver...
