Well, after posting a thread about the categorization of the new X-Pro1 from Fuji that did not seem to generate a lot of interest, I have a better idea. Let's call this camera an HF, or "Hy-finder" camera.

I can't wait to get my hands on my first interchangeable lens Hyfinder next week!

Here was the previous post:

The accepted term seems to be "mirrorless" camera, but the problem with this term is that it is entirely negative. It just says what the camera is NOT, not what it is.

View has been an important criteria for definition: SLR and TLR are defined by their viewing capabilities. Focus is what defines "Rangefinder".

The Fuji XP1 presents a unique combination of View and Focus, but ultimately it's the View (OVF/EVF) that really is unique to the XP1. No other "mirrorless" has it. I propose calling it a VVF = "Variable Viewfinder" camera, or an HVF = "hybrid viewfinder" camera. (Edit: of the two, I prefer "HVF").

Since the RFf establishment will likely not accept our right to exist under its current umbrella of meaning, perhaps a new forum is in order?! ;)

Can't wait for my X-Pro to arrive...

Jon put a copyright on the name. You might get offerred squillions for it.

Yeah, but that $300 fee for a trademark application costs more than the CLE M-Rokkor 90 that I just picked up!

I sent a message to Fujifilm with the suggestions. No squillions for me.
