The Medium Format Semi-Fisheye Lens: something the rangefinder never approaches

Sharing some process work today.

Looking at wide-angle rangefinder lenses with a reasonable amount of peripheral field distortion, perhaps the Voigtlander Heliar 15mm f4.5 stands out. Have any others surfaced on the novel lens markets?

The Rolleiflex Distagon 16mm f2.8 (a Contax C/Y Zeiss 16mm f2.8 design too) holds its own when mounted through various adapters onto 35mm. Still - over the years, I keep returning to the more clunky and larger Bronica SQAi 6x6cm camera for this lens solely for the Zenzanon 35mm f3.5 semi-fisheye.

This is St Lawrence waters imaged on the Zenzanon 35mm f3.5 medium format lens. A lot of photographers detest the kind of semi-fisheye look on film. I found that it always made an image appear [Full] or fuller than a rectilinear.
Whilst meditating on the water, I found that the fullness completes the void; the void finds its fullness in relation to what is around it. Sometimes, photographic vision - seeing - is the only inspiration -which drives me to create.



This image made it onto my new album release entitled [Fullness & Void], released in Taiwan today. It's borne out of the perspective of seeing things this way. It's a free to listen x3 times if you can bear it (it's not easy listening) - long enough to do a long darkroom printing session 🙂
