So the wifey has placed a condition if I want to buy the 50mm summicron. I have to take 200 pictures on my Leica M3 using the Jupiter 8 lens that I have, once I've taken more than 200 pics (around 6 rolls of film), only then can I buy the lens.

I already finished my first roll. And I've sent that roll to genie imaging for development and scanning. Problem is, in order to get to that goal as fast as I can I feel like I'm not being more picky about what kind of images I take. Pictures of shoes? Sure. Pictures of random cars? Why not?

Creativity is being destroyed by GAS. :D

Compare lenses! Shoot 6 rolls in one session.
One roll for bokeh wide open. One roll for flare. One roll for portraits wide open ... of a doll. One roll for bokeh at 2.8.
One roll of portraits of a doll at 2.8.

Done.

The very possible, very real, very awful truth:
The Summicron may not make better photos for you.

I'm almost joking. Good luck. Make the next 6 rolls (start over) from the Jupiter 8 the best photos ever. Then make the first 6 rolls from the Summicron better than the 6 rolls with the Jupiter.

I hope to do just that one of these days. I know just where to do it also.

Man, I'm so glad the gf and I separated the household budget from the 'free' cash. No risk of overspending, no arguments. What also helps is that her hobby is potentially a lot more outrageously expensive than working with Leicas: horses. I've seen sadles worth the same as my entire camera kit!

What a great wife.... just get shooting and say thank you to her over and over again!!!!

You have an M3, you need a 50 Summicron (thought I like my J8 too).

lol. I guess I am being let off easy. This is my first roll of film... ever, as I've only used digital before. I'm wondering how it'll turn out. Most of the shots I took were indoor, at f2. Haha. More shooting I guess.

Your wife could make a career here as a moderator for the classifieds ... sometimes I think we need a little discipline! :D

At f/2, unless the J8 has been shimmed for your Leica, I suspect you'll find that many of the shots aren't focused quite as you'd hoped. I like my J8, but find it needs stopped down a bit.

I can't really decide on which cron that I want. I know I don't want the third version or the collapsible. The DR looks nice but I heard that it won't work with the M8 or M9, not that I have either of those cameras... but you never know in the future.

I guess I should just save money and buy the biggest baddest new one used in like mint condition. I feel like newer is always better when it comes to lens. Though, I could be terribly wrong.

Nice pics of the Jupiter 8 Zane! Yeah I'm not expecting miracles. This is my first roll ever. I just want to see an image to know that I placed the film in correctly! I'm pretty sure I did. Slowly building up the confidence to shoot film.

Yep ...I have both.
Leicas are cheap compared to what a horse costs to keep and equip: and then if you take it out and compete.....

Guess we know who wears the pants in your family.BTW the path towards the Summicron will be enlightening in many ways.

Thanks! I'm surprised you found those shots, that took some digging to find them! :) You've actually reminded me how much I like that lens. I've not used it since I got the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 MC, but should use it more. For one thing I need to give it a try with colour film, now that I've stopped using Costco to develop C-41 film.

haha. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a correlation between photography and horses now.

I'll wait for the M9 to drop to half its price then I'll snatch it. That's how many years from now? How long did it take the M8 to drop?
