The Photographer from Riga

Whoa... I just couldn't stop watching the video. What a beautiful document. Bookmarked and will be watched again. Thank You for this pointer.

Excellent portrayal of a photographer. Is she, or her friend who narrates the film, a member of RFF? They would probably be interesting contributors to some of the better discussions.

Oh, and what a wonderful world we now live in: we're watching a video on Aljazeera's web site. I do so like diversity.

"The important thing, is to work." This is a very succinct description, of how to find joy from a creative process, and have a compelling purpose in life.

I found Inta's work in a photography book featuring the work of artists from Eastern bloc countries. I bought the book and have been trying to find her work for years! Thank you so much for posting!

I was unimpressed. That sort of photography was very common during the period of the Soviet Union and I have books containing many images of that sort, which I find much more to my taste.

Surely, it is a matter of taste... but as a person who spent most of my life in Soviet Lithuania (neighboring country of Latvia) I can assure you that her photography is quite extraordinary even for that period of history. Photographing ordinary people in their poor environment was not very popular. Exhibitions were dominated by "Soviet achievements" - factory workers, agriculture, party leaders. Even for that social class it is not a typical photography in a way that she shows great dignity of "little people". And then the way she communicates/connects with them...
