Interesting new graphic novel that incorporates actual black and white photographs from the photographer. Here is an description from the MSF website:

The Photographer combines art and photography to tell the powerful story of the clandestine operations that Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) ran to assist Afghan people after the Soviet invasion in 1979.
Through the lens of photojournalist Didier Lefèvre and the artwork of acclaimed graphic novelist Emmanuel Guibert, we bear witness to the atrocities and dangers of war in Afghanistan during a time unknown to many today. Lefèvre accompanied MSF and details the operation undertaken by aid workers dedicated to providing emergency medical assistance to those trapped by the war.

Concur. I got a copy over the weekend, started to browse it and ended up reading it cover to cover. An incredible story, and Lefevere's observations of Afghanistan are even more relevant today.

The 3 books (What we call "Bande dessinée")were released here in France in February '06. Very interesting indeed. Got them all and they are among my favourites. The type of story you read from cover to cover without stopping. Great idea to mix drawings and photos. That guy had many narrow escapes, and is very lucky to have pulled through unscathed and got back home in one piece. Others didn't. Interesting to learn how most of the doctors and nurses gave a new course to their lives after such a tense experience.

Yes, a great idea and a great photographer.
Steve McCurry also did some impressive work in that region earlier in his career. If I remember he somehow sewed rolls of film into his clothes.
