I had not considered the confusion that most digital cameras create with ASD ... until I bought the bargain basement X-Pro 1 with 27mm creating a field of view so similar to what my eyes see .
The lens does not change , causing some sublimal anxiety , so a return to the 70s with an SRT with 45 f2 .

For professionals and advanced users , I understand , critical focusing , speed , etc are paramount , so the limitations must be frustrating .

However , when the NEW X-Pro 1/ 27mm price collapses to £310 , it is within the reach of a semi-casual snap shooter using a camera as a shield against a confusing world , changing the focus [ sorry ] where it's limitations are minimal .

I can forgive the occasional duff shot , for the OVF with the amazing advantage of being able to see around the central bright line to assist with composure , just as the combination assists with MY composure .
Even the EVF and rear screen appear clearer than my Sony A35 of a similar vintage , but initially ,much less expensive !
on the screen , test shots are impressive for IQ if not for style !

Previously , I have been enjoying my M8 with CV 35mm f2.5 , but I do find trying to focus tricky , because pre-digital I was ever an SLR user .

It's early days with the X-Pro 1 , they say a camera can't alter ability , but now , I am not so certain .

I guess that , in some way , this is a specialist camera for my requirements .

Make sure you have the 'corrected AF frame' turned on in the menu. With that as a focussing aid, there shouldn't be any duff shots ;) the x-pro1 is highly underrated. More accurate focussing camera than my old 5d mk3.

Cameras can't alter your ability to "see" images in an artistic way. But they sure as heck can alter your ability to capture them.

And over time they may even do the former - if a camera encourages you to pick it up, carry it and use it then that gives you experience that helps you develop your photographic style. The experience and learning confers the ability but its the camera that facilitates it. That is my experience anyway.

Thanks gavinig - duly noted and sorted .

peterm1 - I found the M8 with just a 35/2.5 CV or Summitar really did focus me on framing etc . But the bright lines of the X-Pro 1 are much clearer .

I don't have the opportunity to go off to London and various buildings any more , so that's a problem for me .

I still can't believe that this chance buy camera combination cost only £310 , actually £308 !!
