I'm back from my honeymoon in Kaua'i, AKA Jurassic Park. It was wonderful, relaxing, and awe-inspiring. Truly paradise on earth. It would be perfect if it wasn't for the mosquitoes.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I didn't want to lug around an SLR and a bunch of lenses. I wanted to be versatile and compact, hence the s90 was a given. However I did take some recommendations from the thread concerning filter attachments (the polarizer did come in handy), and I also bought the underwater housing because I thought I would need it (and boy did I!).

I only took about 850 photos, here are about 40. There's so much to say about these photos - about the various lighting conditions, the problems of using the camera in different environments, trying to make sure I had the right settings, having opportunities, missing opportunities, making sure I spend more time with my new wife than my s90 etc. All in all I'm happy with how it performed, and I have a lot of wonderful memories captured.

My lovely wife.

A view of the Na Pali coast... you can see a boat waaay down there.

Auto settings didn't do too badly here

First time in the water. I had had the camera in the housing for the entire catamaran ride in case it got wet or dropped. It's fun to use in the water, albeit exceptionally tricky.

I like this one. How many crabs can you spot?

Wailua falls from a boring angle - but the best one that doesn't cost you at least $40.

On the way to and from the Fern Grotton on the Wailua river we were treated to traditional Hawaiian music and some Hula dancing.

Careful!

Since the Na Pali experience I was desperate to see another turtle - I finally found one on our last full day there. I think I woke him up - but he still swam around for me so I could take pictures before going back to sleep.

Kipu falls - a fantastic swimmin' hole that's on private property. Hotels discourage you from going there because it is trespassing, plus the place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Slippery rocks, the only way down is jumping down onto the rocks, or taking the rope or swing. I opted for the swing. The only way out is an algae covered ladder. It was fun but dangerous.

Thanks fellas. We're hoping my sister gets married there. Hopefully sometime soon so we can go back.

Son, you are one lucky man!
And these are some beautiful shots... in particular, the underwater ones look absolutely professional-quality.

All great photos! Thanks for sharing.

You have a lovely wife and apparently a very photo-understanding wife. Don't let her get away.

She is quite photo-understanding. There have been times, however, when I may have pushed her patience if I'm really slowing down a hike, or if I'm taking too many photos of her when she's feeling unphotogenic. Happily, I didn't even remotely get to that point on this trip.

Darkhorse,

The one spot I can't place in my mind's eye is the 3rd photo in the grouping that has the riverboat singers. Where were you for that photo?

alot of good photos in there. this makes me wanna get a S90 even more. i have been thinking about getting one, when i get the money i will be getting one.

Darkhorse,

The one spot I can't place in my mind's eye is the 3rd photo in the grouping that has the riverboat singers. Where were you for that photo?

It's just off Kipu road, right at the start of the private road that leads to the path where the falls are.

Very nice pix! Congrats. Thanks for posting.

I handled the S90 at a store recently. It is small. Some years back I shelved all my heavier gear and shot only with a Rollei35 while my kids were growing up. I had great results.

The S90 reminds me of that period but the lack of a viewfinder bothers me. On the other hand, the Rollei35 had no rangefinder so one can get used to whatever camera is at hand.

Anyway, your pix are great!

Those shots are very nice! Thanks for sharing images of your Hawaii honeymoon with us.

I loved diving in Hawaii. Many of the fish are endemic to Hawaii and can't be seen anywhere else in the world. My screen name, ornate_wrasse, actually comes from when I was diving there many years ago. I was so struck with the beauty of that fish, that I decided to use it as my handle for forums that I post on. Speaking of forums, I encourage you to visit www.wetpixel.com, a great forum for underwater photographers. I am one of the moderators on that forum and I will give you a warm welcome if you decide to join :)

In the Point and Shoot Forum on wetpixel, both the S90 and the G11 consistently get high marks for being great uw cameras. You've made an excellent choice for underwater photography.

Thanks again for these lovely images.

Ellen

I love the quality of the color on the first photo. Is it manipulated much or was it the lighting/camera?

It has a very warm, film like feel to it.

Stunning quality colour photo results from such a tiny little digital camera.
BTW, I saw my first ever S90 Canon in the flesh at Henry's yesterday, it is a very pocketable and handy little camera.

Congrats..¡¡¡Nice Set and lovely lady of course...lucky man...
I visited Kauai some years back and I think the singer on river walk to Frn Grotto are the same..:)..
Thx for share..
