hi guys, i just put together a piece with the above title while organizing files form previous trips. ENJOY 
introduction:
bicycles represents an integral form of transportation in many major cities across the globe. in amsterdam, the ubiquitous two wheel wonders work themselves into the very fabric of city life, providing a means of transportation that is both earth-friendly and efficient. the bicycles has managed to achieve what all other modes of transportation aspire to do: weaving seamlessly over the many canals and through charming pathways with the minimum of fuss. however, though they have served us well, there is still much for us to learn about the makeup of these fine vehicles: what happens when we leave them unattended? in this series, you will discover a previously hidden part of bicycle life that has never been documented... until now.

Kelvin, I like this gallery! It really gives the viewer a sense of the ubiquity of the bicycle in Amsterdam. Very nice work!
Since you asked for some constructive comments... I have two to offer:
1. As a replacement for the first photograph of the set (which if I understand is to provide the "setting") it would be great if you could have a photograph of a public square or other meeting place where you see a lot of people with their bicyles.
2. A few photographs of bikes with stolen parts would add some more drama! (Do bike parts ever get stolen in Amsterdam? hahaha!)

i can probably find a picture of people with bikes (and i agree, that IS a good opening shot),
the closest i have to stolen bike parts are shots of bikes with missing seats (OUCH!)
will comb through the archives and see what i come up with

It's very interesting that you put this together as an after-thought not a project you were working on...I like the comments from the bikes...
The suicide shot is very creative thinking...along with the immigration line...

As a cyclist and photgrapher, equal passions, I am also on the lookout for intersting bicycle scenes when I travel or here at home (Sacramento CA). We will be in Japan in September and your gallery has enthused me even more to document Japanese bicycle culture with a rangefinder eye and kit. Thank you.

nikon_sam: ive always wanted to do something with the bike shots, i seem to shoot more of them than people when in amsterdam! the pics here were from 3 separate visits, each one a year apart.
ive always found that reviewing 'archives' gives you a fresh look at the pictures, probably different form when you first took it, as the time lapse effectively removes the emotional attachment of the pics (unless its intimate subjects like families etc). i tend to discover new things sometimes, or just get attracted to compositions that i initially find a bit blah.
bobkonos: if you're going to tokyo, the harachuku crowd makes for some interesting subjects. pretty 'out there'. Japan as a whole is a photog's playgound anyway!

hi robert, thanks for checking out the gallery and for your comments. unfortunately, as this was put together from previously taken pictures, im limited by the kind of shots i have at my disposal, but will be sure to keep this in mind next time im in amsterdam!
