Has anyone got .... any first hand knowledge of the poorest optical quality standard lens (45 mm to 58mm) in LTM , that anyone on this forum has ever used? From any era, I realize that optical quality is subjective, and can vary from lens to lens of the same model & by physical condition.. Any suggestions, any names to drop?

I'm recalling from memory and could be wrong but, wasn't the Hektor 50/2.5 widely known around the world for it's extremely poor performance ? 🙂

Another one on the list (from memory as well) seems to be the Exaktar made for the... you guess it, Exakta.

OTH, one man's junk is another one's treasure, check google for Holga 😉

Jason Schneider did a review of LTM lenses in ~1973. He stated the 50mm F2.5 Hektor was (I think) "a Dog".

But he was really down on the Wollensak 50mm F1.5 "Raptar". I think the latter was a cinema lens designed for 18x24 that was put into service as an LTM. I have a Wollensak 50mm F1.5 enlarger lens that has much bigger optics than the one actually put into a helical. The move to make it an enlarging lens has got to be an afterthought.

On the J3, I am currently rebuilding one for LTM. i moved the lens module out by more than 1mm to bring the image in focus using a 15x loupe and the distance scale. Now I need to add a ring to the Cam. I am thinking a 37mm filter ring filed down will do the trick. It is a double helical, to I only need to file a flat spot on the ring. The image looked really sharp under the loupe, so we'll see... It certainly gets the award for worst mechanical precision.

After seeing who started this thread, in the same article on LTM lenses, Jason Schneider heaped praise on the Summarit as a fast optic that competed with the new lenses (of the day) for sharpness and was a real bargain.

I will see if I will learn to love the Summarit, maybe I am a little more forgiving in my old age. The Summar is known to be a poor lens, but the father of one of the (primo) sellers on Eb*y and on Camera shows, has told me that some of his best 35mm pics were taken with a Summar, and he considers it a fantastic lens.
