The X20 has landed!

Love the photo!
I hope the Fuji X20 does well for you. You seem to have made a good start with it!

Thanks! Enjoying it a lot so far, especially since I can now work with DNGs (Silkypix and I never got along).

I'm sure over time and with more practice, I'll be able to find that RAW sweet spot and pull a little more detail from the files. It took me a few months with both the M9 and the OMD. Every sensor has its strengths and quirks!

nice capture. i sold my x10 a couple months ago in anticipation of the x20. then i read horror stories about its jpeg output compared to the x10, smearing, lack of detail etc.

well i got mine yesterday and did some very preliminary jpeg test shots, similar to those i made previously when i first got the x10. my initial reaction is the resolution/clarity/sharpness of the focused subject is noticeably superior to the x10. landscape and background detail is not what i personally want, but not worse than the x10. this is disappointing because imo one is entitled to expect successive generations to deliver a better product, especially when the change of sensor is, as fuji did here, specifically touted as an improvement.

having said this, imo, overall IQ may be fixable in firmware updates, though again, this is a very disappointing way to go about one,s business. secondly, but importantly, there are a number of performance improvements that make the overall use of the camera far better than the x10: much faster AF, focus confirmation in the vf, exposure info in the vf, Q button for quicker adjustments, 'sun' setting for better lcd viewing, inclusion of a 'film bracketing' feature, more control over 'auto iso' settings.

ive not tested low light/high iso, nor has the testing i have done anything but preliminary, but all in all i do think this iteration for me is, even if my findings hold up, superior enough over the x10 to warrant the upgrade.

I agree with you - the JPG output was a little disappointing. Silkypix is also not my favorite raw developer. As I said, though, only had to wait three days before Adobe officially accepted X20 raw files. Now a much happier user! So far, I think I can push this to ISO1600 and still get acceptable results (I like a little grain on my photos anyway).

It would still be nice to see a firmware upgrade. Even with NR set to -2 and at ISO400, JPG smearing was a little to aggressive for me.

Slight complaints with the above aside, the camera is a joy to use. Looks super cool too!

Have had the x20 for about 3 weeks. It's a very capable camera.
I use the RAW converter from Fuji and import tiffs into PWP (my standby)
to winkle out any additional goodness from the image.

As it turns out my first P&S was also a Fuji, the E900, still in use today.

A few more shots. No noise reduction nor added grain. Raw developed in LR4.
